What the engine measured on this world
These are the world above, not a world like it. On foot means you can walk there from the start altar, wading the odd channel but never building a boat.

The world generator Valheim itself uses
Type a seed above and this draws the same world the game would build from it, before you ever load it: the same coastlines, the same boss altars, the same trader camps. The map is generated in your own browser from the seed alone. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing about your game is read.
How Valheim world generation works
A seed is a short piece of text you choose when you create a world. Valheim turns that text into a single number, and that number decides everything fixed about the world: where the land sits, which biome covers each stretch of it, and where every altar, crypt and camp is placed. The same text always makes the same number, so it always makes the same world.
Two players on opposite sides of the planet typing the same seed get identical maps, down to the metre. That is what makes a seed worth sharing at all. It also comes with a catch. Valheim has shipped three sets of generation rules, numbered 0, 1 and 2, and they put the Mountains, Mistlands and Swamp boundaries in different places. A seed you found three years ago no longer builds the world it built then. Every map drawn here uses the current rules, and the game version sits above the map.
What this map shows
Every fixed structure the game places when a world is born: 110 kinds of landmark across 12 groups. Boss altars, the three traders, burial chambers, sunken crypts, troll caves, frost caves, infested mines, Fuling villages, Draugr villages, Greydwarf camps, Dvergr structures, runestones, graves and stone circles, ruins, abandoned houses, shipwrecks, tar pits, and the natural features between them.
A single world holds about 12,400 of them. That is more than any map can draw at once and stay readable, so they start switched off. Reveal the map, then turn on the groups you care about, or search a landmark by name.
The nine biomes, and the thing seed lists get wrong
Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountains, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands, Deep North and Ocean. Every Valheim world contains all nine. A seed never has a biome or lacks one, so a list promising “a seed with Mistlands” is promising nothing. What changes between worlds is how far you walk to reach each one, and that is the only comparison worth making.
Three of them vary enough to be worth a number. Across the 314 worlds measured here, the nearest Black Forest sits between 59m and 592m from spawn, the nearest Ocean between 94m and 940m, and the nearest Mountains between 144m and 1,665m. Swamp, Plains and Mistlands land at much the same distance in nearly every world, so a figure for those separates nothing and this page does not print one.
The three traders
Haldor sells the dverger circlet, the belt and the fishing gear, and always stands somewhere in a Black Forest. Hildir sells cosmetics and hands out three side quests. The Bog Witch keeps to the Swamp and trades the ingredients for her own recipes.
All three appear the moment the map is revealed, each with its distance from the start altar measured in a straight line, so you can tell before you play whether your first shopping trip is a walk or a boat trip.
Finding your own world’s seed
Valheim shows a world’s seed beside it on the screen where you choose which world to play. It is the same field you typed it into when the world was made. The seed is fixed at that moment and can never be changed afterwards, so the only way into a particular world is to make a new one with that code.
Type it exactly, capital letters included. HHcLC5acQt and hhclc5acqt are two completely different worlds, and mistyping the case is where nearly every “the seed didn’t work” report comes from.
Reading the four views
Game draws the world in the colours the in-game map uses, so it matches what you will see while playing. Hybrid keeps those colours and lays the terrain shading over the top. Height drops colour and paints altitude alone, which is how you find the pass through a mountain range. Contour draws that height as lines, and is the clearest way to read a coastline or the shape of a valley.
What this map deliberately does not show
No creatures. Valheim does not decide where a troll stands when it builds the world. That happens while you play, from the time of day, what you have already killed and where you are standing. A pin would be a guess dressed up as a fact.
No trees, ore or berries. Those come from a separate system this map does not model, so a silver deposit is not something it can honestly mark. And nothing inside a dungeon or a camp, with one exception: maypoles, which stand in Meadows farms and are counted with everything else.
Common questions
How many different Valheim worlds are there?
Effectively without end. Any text you type is a valid seed, and each one builds a world nobody has walked. The catalogue here holds the ones players thought were worth keeping.
Where do I find my world's seed?
Beside the world on the screen where you pick which world to play, on every platform. It is fixed when the world is created and can never be changed afterwards.
Is this exactly the map I will get in game?
Yes, as long as your game is on the same version this map was drawn with. That version is printed above the map.
Does it work for Xbox, PlayStation and Switch?
Yes. Console cannot run mods or open save files, so typing a seed in by hand is the only route into a chosen world — and this map is how you check one before you spend forty hours in it.
Why doesn't the in-game map already show all this?
Valheim hides the map until you walk it, on purpose. This is the same data the game holds from the first second, drawn all at once. It is useful for planning a base or a route, and no substitute for the walk.
